FREE Staff transport planning: Smarter travel makes good business sense.

The Travel SMART team are on hand to provide free training and discounts on business and staff travel up to March 31st 2015.

Travel SMART is an initiative from Surrey County Council that aims to reduce carbon, calories and cost. It therefore encourages employees and employers to commute to and from work with more sustainable modes of transport.

Travel SMART can also help your business reduce business travel costs and help your business improve risk management processes, corporate social responsibility, staff health, wellbeing, recruitment and retention.

A range of initiatives are available including:

  • Free driver training to reduce fuel costs. This training can either be delivered in car or in a simulator and aims to improve the fuel efficiency staff achieve when driving;

  • Grants for onsite cycle facilities. The Travel SMART team can help you identify and bid for funding to improve your facilities for people who cycle to work;

  • Free journey planning advice for staff. This advice will help staff plan business journeys and consider alternative modes for their commutes.

  • Free travel coordinator training. This training is aimed at Travel Plan Coordinators, Sustainability managers, Bike user group leaders and Facilities Managers and will focus on how to implement measures to deliver time and cost savings to your business and staff; and

  • Free travel road shows to promote a wide variety of topics to your staff. The Travel SMART team can visit your office and provide a wide variety of information to your staff including information about car sharing, walking, cycling and public transport routes and eco driving.

Your business will also get a say on how funding allocated to the Woking Business Travel Forum is spent in your local area.

Businesses who have already engaged with the Travel SMART team within Woking including Capegemini, Skanska, Woking Borough Council, Peacocks and Wolsey Place shopping centres and WWF. Laura Clarke from Capgemini told us: "it's been very valuable having an external party promote alternative modes of travelling to work and offer information to our employees. It makes the message all the more powerful as it shows that the issue is wider than just Capgemini"
