Woking Works

Business support

Woking takes a positive approach towards local business.

A number of key organisations work together to help support the local business community in Woking, including the Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce, Town Centre Management, Asian Business Forum, Surrey Chambers, and Business Link Surrey.

As part of its commitment to encouraging a thriving local economy, the Council is also working with the owners of the Peacocks Shopping Centre to help revitalise retail activity in the town.

The development of retail, entertainment and cultural facilities has featured high on Woking's agenda since the early 1990s, when the landmark Peacocks Shopping Centre and The Ambassadors theatre and cinema complex were built, bringing high street and department stores under one roof, plus West End and international entertainment to the region.

And Woking has continued to support the arts through the development of a canal-side location to house the award-winning museum and gallery, The Lightbox, which opened to great acclaim in September 2007. As well as offering internationally-renowned touring exhibitions, The Lightbox is one of Woking's many sustainable structures, helping to contribute towards Woking Borough Council's reputation as one of the most energy efficient local authorities in the UK.
