What are the Benefits?

Active involvement in the local community can bring a range of benefits to your business from gaining new insights into potential business opportunities to raising staff morale by offering challenging training and development opportunities for employees.

For example, one local company ran weekly employment workshops for a charity supporting the homeless.  As a result the volunteers enhanced their skills in a way that would not have been possible in the normal workplace and this project also boosted the company’s reputation locally.

Other companies have chosen to spend their employee volunteering days on environmental projects, swapping suits for boots to build sensory gardens, wildlife ponds and clearing scrub land on Horsell Common. The chance to be away from the office, working closely as a team, learning new skills and having something tangible to show at the end of the day has been universally welcomed. Case studies demonstrate clearly that corporate social responsibility at its best is not a one way street but a partnership that rewards all those involved.

CASE STUDY: BOC

In September 2022 a team from BOC Woking volunteered on the Basingstoke Canal and not only had a great team building day but helped the Canal Society with their ongoing work to maintain the canal for the wildlife that live their and the Woking residents who enjoy it.

Volunteer Woking connected BOC with the Basingstoke Canal Societey.

Jane Damon, BOC’s Ecommerce Growth Executive said,

“Having recently moved offices to Woking we wanted to volunteer some time to a local charity and chose The Basingstoke Canal.

We found Ian and Richard to be knowledgeable, engaging and well organised, and our goal of litter picking and removing the invasive water weed brought out the competitive spirit in the team. It was very satisfying to look back over the canal at the end and see the results of our hard work. We found it very rewarding to give something back to our local community, and it proved to be a memorable team building experience for us all, with positive feedback from everyone involved.”
