Synergy Physiotherapy & Rehab

We are a physiotherapy practice treating everyday and sporting injuries. We have specialists in back and neck pain, paediatric and women's health. We also offer sports massage and Pilates classes.

Synergy Physiotherapy opened in September 2010 providing focused physiotherapy for the people of Woking and the surrounding towns.

Believing strongly in a holistic approach, we consider all aspects of lifestyle and sporting techniques in order to determine the causes of symptoms and to provide an optimal rehabilitation programme.

Our physiotherapists specialise in back and neck pain, muscle joint problems, sporting injuries, paediatrics, and women's health conditions (which include the bladder, bowel or pelvic floor pain), whilst our complimentary focus includes Pilates and personal training for core stability, sports massage, and strength and conditioning.

Treatment for kids

Treating children's complaints and injuries requires a very specific set of skills and knowledge as the musculo-skeletal system response to treatment in a child can be very different to that of an adult.

Children develop rapidly through growth "spurts" and through the effects of puberty. Their soft tissue structures and bones lengthen at varying rates, which causes muscle imbalances and an altered posture. The result can be associated pain, potential poor posture and asymmetrical gait, which may lead to longer-term problems.

There is a variety of conditions treated from ages 0-18, including babies that may be slow to walk to children competing in sport.

Our paediatric specialist uses fun techniques when treating younger children and involves the whole family in the rehabilitation.

For children who take part in sport at school or in a club and especially for those who are competing at a high level, providing the right support and rehabilitation programme is vital to helping them to achieve their full potential.

Women's health

Continence problems and pelvic pain occur at any age. The causes are many and varied, and can affect men as well as women.

If asked, many men and women would say they live with the innocuous symptoms of incontinence every day, accepting them as a part of life - rushing to the nearest toilet when you are 'caught short', or passing wind when you lift something - these are common, but not 'normal'.

Some well-known causes include having a baby or prostate surgery. Less well-known is that most people can be helped with physiotherapy. Stress incontinence, often happening when you cough, sneeze or exercise, is caused through physical impact on the bladder, perhaps due to weak pelvic floor muscles. Urge incontinence, may be due to poor bladder muscles, irritation or even sometimes a medical condition. Gynaecological surgery or pre and post-natal related pain are also among the most common causes of bladder and bowel problems and pelvic pain.

Our specialist physiotherapist uses state of the art techniques and equipment, including monitoring how well your pelvic floor muscles are working using a biofeedback machine.

Early intervention can expedite recovery

According to statistics from the Health and Safety Executive[1], "in 2009/10, an estimated 9.3 million working days were lost through work-related musculoskeletal disorders" and that on average "each person suffering from a work-related musculoskeletal disorder took an estimated 16.3 days off in 2009/10". The number for incontinence disorders is unpublished, possibly due to the 'it's part of life' attitude we take, though it is likely to be considerable.

As with most health complaints, early physiotherapy intervention is essential in preventing an acute musculo-skeletal problem from becoming chronic and in reducing sick days from work. Also, treating a complaint early enough decreases the overall number of treatments needed.

With their variety of skills, our physios draw on their collective experiences to create a complete programme to get you symptom free and back to your everyday life or chosen sport.

We support our patients throughout their rehabilitation sometimes seeing them only a few times, but over a longer elapsed time, so they need less hands-on physiotherapy. We will teach you how to manage your problems, give you a home exercise programme which we hope you will keep to - this will enhance your recovery. Also, we can offer Pilates. There is no standard treatment and each programme is tailored to the individual and will include advice about lifestyle.

Initial assessments can be booked by calling 01483 600351 or by emailing [email protected].
