The Lightbox

The Lightbox is an award-winning art gallery, museum and charity set in a stunning building designed by the famous Marks Barfield Architects, the designers of the London Eye.

The gallery´s ethos is founded on making art and learning accessible and providing a stimulating, welcoming and inclusive environment for education, exploration, discovery, creativity and enjoyment. Through workshops, exhibitions, events and performances, children, families, teenagers, retired people and people with learning difficulties from our culturally diverse communities are able to come together to celebrate their heritage and culture, learn something new and share their achievements.

What we do

Exhibitions

Our four stunning galleries host a huge range of exhibitions, changing regularly. Find out what's on in all our galleries now, what's coming up next by clicking here.

The Lightbox houses and regularly exhibits The Ingram Collection one of the largest and most significant publicly accessibly collections of modern British art in the UK.

The Lightbox Heritage Collection is comprised of thousands of fascinating historical objects, many of which have local significance to Woking. This collection was used to create our permanent museum Woking's Story and our three regularly changing displays.

Learning and Engagement

Art and Wellbeing Programme

The Art and Wellbeing programme provides opportunities for those that would otherwise not be able to access and enjoy arts and heritage services to take part in creative and therapeutic workshops.  Click here to learn more.

Schools and Learning

The Lightbox has been running award-winning learning and engagement programmes since 1997. We work with artists, schools and community groups to provide inspiring creative activities for all ages and abilities. We welcome bookings from schools and groups to visit any of the changing exhibitions in one of our three galleries, or to visit Woking’s Story, our interactive museum that houses a permanent collection of Woking’s social history.

The award-winning building also has an interactive display on the environment and a purpose built Education Studio, where visiting groups can take part in hands-on creative workshops.  Click here to learn more.
