The Hot Seat

Woking Works is pleased to present a special International Women's Day episode of 'The Hot Seat' live from the WWF UK Living Planet Centre in Woking.

The Hot Seat is a monthly Q + A hosted by The Inspiration Space covering topics that are interesting and relevant to small business owners, entrepreneurs or anyone looking for professional inspiration.

In celebration of International Women's Day, we'll be focusing closer to home, sharing the inspirational stories of resilience, creativity and courage from three impressive Surrey women - all on three very different career journeys.

Come along and find out how Lorna Nanda, a former Telecoms professional who was catapulted into the UK food scene following her 1st place win on BBC cooking show, The Big Family Cooking Showdown, copes with trying to balance work life vs. family life vs. having her OWN life.

Alice Chalker, leader of Strategic Business Development at McLaren, will talk to us about how she combined her love for Theatre Production and Physics into an incredible career in engineering - working for one of the world’s most innovative technology companies. Leader of Driven Women, McLaren's first women’s network aimed to provide internal support, inspiration and mentorship, find out how Alice fights the good fight internally without losing her cool.

Mivy James, a finalist in the 2017 FDM women in technology awards and Head of Consulting for National Security and Defence and Deputy Head of Global Consulting for BAE Systems Applied Intelligence will be giving an impassioned keynote speech about the changing appetite of company boards to tackle diversity and the ecosystem of changes that is needed to create the gender balance we're all striving for.

Our final guest is Mariéme Jamme is a Senegalese-born British businesswoman, often called the diplomat of technology.

Sold by her mother into the sex-trade as a young girl and with no formal education before arriving in the UK, Marieme was named on the Powerlist 2017 of Britain’s 100 most influential people of African and African Caribbean Heritage and honoured as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum for her activism work in empowering and investing in young women and girls in Africa.

In what is guaranteed to be one of the most inspiring and uplifting stories you'll ever hear, we're going to ask Mariéme how she found the power and resolve within to rise with confidence and lead the charge to enable 1 million women and girls to learn the economically uplifting skills of coding by 2030.

We're inviting and encouraging Surrey based business owners, creatives, dreamers, doers and makers to take a seat at the table for this fun and informal fireside chat.

This free event is a great opportunity to not only hear fascinating stories of entrepreneurship - full of learnings and humorous anecdotes as standard - but to also connect with local people in business who may otherwise never get the chance to meet.

The Inspiration Space is all about brining people together to have the meaningful conversations that spark big ideas and you're guaranteed to leave energised and with a few new nuggets of information that you can use along your way.
