Woking in Bloom returns with a splash of floral fun!

Root out those gardening gloves, go potty with those plants and get growing for the return of Woking in Bloom 2013!

Absent from our streets and gardens in 2012, this marvellous competition is back by popular demand. Residents, schools, businesses and publicans are encouraged to join in the floral fun by getting their green fingers on an application form before the closing date on Friday 5 July.

The competition is open to all Borough residents and businesses, with the aim of making Woking a brighter, greener place to live. To be in with a chance of winning gold, keen gardeners can choose to enter one of seven main categories or the special award for newcomers.

Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for the Environmental Maintenance Contract, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Woking in Bloom is back. It's a fantastic competition that judges how creative residents can be, as well as what green initiatives are being used in their gardens. It encourages residents and businesses to get out and enjoy their green, open spaces."

The event is organised by Woking Borough Council and is sponsored by environmental maintenance company, Serco, and Squires Garden Centres.

Judging will take place in July and entry is free. An awards ceremony will be held in September, when prizes for the lucky winners of each category will be presented by the Mayor of Woking.

Application forms are available from the Civic Offices, local libraries and online.
