Launch Celebrates Woking Works

Over 100 representatives from Woking businesses, charities and not-for-profit organisations joined Woking Borough Council’s Business Liaison Team at the WWF-UK Living Planet Centre, on Wednesday 16 November, for the formal launch of Woking Works - a new partnership with Arcom IT, Barlow Robbins Solicitors, Hamlyns Chartered Accountants, NatWest Bank and Something Big Creative Communications Agency.

Driven by Woking’s Economic Development Strategy, Woking Works aims to support, increase and retain business in Woking, encouraging the formation of a community that strives to work with each other for the good of the town. The occasion offered local people an opportunity to meet each other and create links within the local business community – a key part of the Woking Works vision.

Cllr Saj Hussain, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Promoting the Local Economy, said: “Our partners recognise that Woking is a great place to do business. We want to attract other companies to the area by showcasing success, highlighting opportunities, and sharing inspirational thinking. Working closely with partners really helps us to live up to our reputation as one of the South's most ambitious councils. We are delivering a town centre that encourages organisations and entrepreneurs to do business here.”

Guests were treated to drinks and refreshments, and entertainment was in the form of a new promotional short film about Woking, to encourage investment in the town from developers and big businesses. In addition, there were a number of speakers, including Ray Morgan, CEO of Woking Borough Council, and Chris Norrington, Business Liaison Manager at the Council. Acclaimed BBC 5 Live sports presenter, Garry Richardson, also entertained the audience with an informative and amusing talk entitled “If you don't ask, you don't get”.

Woking Works’ next open event will be a Christmas Drinks evening on Monday 19 December, hosted in conjunction with Surrey Chambers of Commerce and Woking Chamber of Commerce. The festive fun will be happening at the H.G. Wells Conference Centre between 6pm and 8pm, so please visit www.wokingworks.com/events to secure your place.
