Plans For New FedEx Byfleet Base Set For Approval

Plans to change the use and alter an industrial building in Byfleet to ready it for prospective new occupier FedEx Express UK Transportation are set to be approved.

The AIM Aviation building on Abbott Close currently provides 74,680 sq ft of space and 185 car parking spaces.

Under the plans, a mezzanine would be removed, leaving 70,568 sq ft, while the parking provision would be reduced to 74 spaces.

Proposals filed by kiely planning on behalf of the applicant said: "The application is submitted to meet the needs of the prospective occupier, FedEx Express UK Transportation Ltd.

"For commercial reasons, following the merger of the company with TNT, they are seeking to bring together their two local depots to operate from a single building."

The application is set to go before Woking Borough Council's planning committee next week (29 September 2020).

A report said: "Overall the principle of development/change of use is acceptable, the proposal is visually acceptable and both the physical works, and the proposed change of use, would remain appropriate and in character with the industrial and commercial nature of the area within which the site is located."

Approval is subject to a number of conditions.
